Which VoIP Phone To Choose From

VoIP Phone Systems: Enhance Your Business with Blake Telecom

Traditional PBX phones systems have standard hardware for manufacturers (they use their own hardware), and when it comest to changing that system, you often need to replace the whole system and start again. However, with a VoIP phone system, things are a little more simpler and easier to understand. You can save money, have better features, better reliability and a higher quality of speech, all without a physical traditional PBX phone system on site.

What to look for when changing phones

If you already have a business phone system in place, such as an old style PBX system or cordless phones that just run off one line, things are much simpler. Firstly, you need to look at your requirements. An older style PBX may have all singing and dancing handsets that you may not use anymore, you may only need a basic handset or even no phone at all. Make sure you plan your phones around what you really need. From this, you will be able to decide whether you need just a basic handset, a cordless handset, a mid-range handset or an executive style with lots of flexibility.

Quality

The thing to remember about VoIP handsets, is that you need a handset that has good quality materials. How do you know what is good? Well firstly, do NOT only look at the price. Cheapest is not always best. Look for a handset that is well made and robust such as a Yealink handset. Chinese imports can often cause issues so take care in choosing. Also, if you are looking for to change providers, you sometimes need to buy the handsets again because the model you have may not be compatible with your new provider’s platform. Yealink is excellent for this as most platforms today can use their products.

Don’t just look at price.

Unfortunately there are still some companies in the UK that are selling handsets a lot cheaper than the manufacturers recommend and in quite a few cases, this is because the reseller is buying them as Grey imports – meaning they are not bought from the UK. This could also mean that when you go to use the phones, some of the functions will not work and the manufacturers often do not support any warranty when you speak with them. Ask the questions to find out if they are UK bought. All of the handsets bought from Blake Telecom have been bought from within the UK with full manufacturer’s warranties.

Functionality

When you choose the type of phone you would like, whether basic, mid-range or executive, you should take into consideration the functions of the handset. Features like;

WiFi connectivity. Newer T5 handsets in the Yealink range offer WiFi connectivity. This is great when you would like to have a phone where there is physical data cable to connect your phone to. You simply power up the phone, go to the settings and input your router’s WiFi details. No additional cabling required.

Keys. Having a good number of DSS (Direct Station Select) keys on your phone offers you the chance to transfer calls or make calls much quicker. All you have to is press the key on your phone and you are calling either another extension or an external telephone number.

Directory. This gives you the option to look at either the internal extension numbers or external directory of regularly dialled numbers.

Menu. The menu button will give you access to the telephone’s various options including basic settings, advanced settings, headset details, features, status and more.

On a much basic handset, you may only require a couple of keys and therefore have a look at our basic handsets in the range. You can also have more executive handsets offering touch screen functionality or even cordless handsets which allow you to walk around the office.

Thankfully, Blake Telecom offers a wide range of handsets to suit every business and you can find out more by clicking here.
