SOGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access)
SOGEA is similar to FTTC in that it uses the same fiber and copper infrastructure, but it eliminates the need for a traditional phone line. Here's how it stands out:
- No Phone Line Required: SOGEA provides broadband without requiring line rental, potentially reducing costs.
- Speed: Offers similar speeds to FTTC, leveraging the same network infrastructure.
- VoIP Services: Since there’s no phone line, you can use VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) for voice calls.
FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet)
FTTC delivers internet by running fibre optic cables to a street cabinet near your premises, with the final connection to your home/office made via a copper telephone line. However, FTTC
- Phone Line Required: FTTC requires an active phone line, which means you'll need to pay for line rental.
- Speed: Offers download speeds up to 80 Mbps, depending on the distance from the cabinet.
- Voice Services: Includes a traditional phone line, allowing you to use standard telephone services alongside your internet.

Why is SoGEA a better service than FTTC?
SoGEA and FTTC services utilise the copper wires going from your premises to the cabinet in the street and both offer great speeds of up to 80Mbps. However SoGEA offers greater stability because it doesn't use traditional copper-based phone lines. SoGEA lines boast a more reliable connection with a much lower risk of downtime due to faults. With a higher than average bandwidth and superior speeds SoGEA is the perfect alternative to PSTN for any business.

FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet)
FTTC delivers internet by running fibre optic cables to a street cabinet near your premises, with the final connection to your home made via a copper telephone line. Here are some key points:
- Phone Line Required: FTTC requires an active phone line, which means you'll need to pay for line rental.
- Speed: Offers download speeds up to 80 Mbps, depending on the distance from the cabinet.
- Voice Services: Includes a traditional phone line, allowing you to use standard telephone services alongside your internet.
SOGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access)
SOGEA is similar to FTTC in that it uses the same fibre and copper infrastructure, but it eliminates the need for a traditional phone line.
You do with fibre to the cabinet but not with SoGEA. This is because SoGEA does not use traditional phone lines for it's connectivity - thus saving you money.
Both fibre to the cabinet and SoGEA services will offer up to 80Mbps on download and up to 20Mbps on upload speeds. This is purely dependant on your local exchange and we can test this speed for you.
When moving to SoGEA, the service requires your telephone number to be moved onto our VoIP telephone service. Talk to our team today to find out how we can prevent any loss of business.
